Introducing some Educational Web search engines and directories for children:

  • KidzSearch.com (http://www.kidzsearch.com/) Powered by GoogleSafe Search; Only returns filtered results.
  • KidsClick! (http://www.kidsclick.org/) Based on the  search engine SWISH-E; arranged as directory listings, chosen by librarians

Teaching children programming

I recently watched videos and read about how games and computers are new media for thinking and enabling us to think in new directions other than on pen and paper. One of the latest video I watched was this one about "what most schools don't teach" See it below:

After watching that film, I think homeschooling parents should teach their children how to program. So I looked up for resources to do so and discovered a children programming language, SCRATCH, that is also mentioned in the video. See the link to the software program here: http://scratch.mit.edu/

News article defending homeschooling

This I came across an article by Forbes Contributor, Bill Flax, who wrote the opinion article entitled: "Want To Tell The State To Stick It? Homeschool Your Kids"

Flax makes the point that homeschooling is a part of the rich American heritage and political  culture of individuals seeking to take care of their own needs rather than relying on the state to do so.

One quote from this article:
"A limited study by J. Gary Knowles found no homeschool graduates who were unemployed or residing on welfare."

So many quotes in this article. A must read for parents with children.
