REPORT July 12, 2011

REPORT July 12, 2011

We commenced at approximately 9:15am with the singing of lively choruses and prayer.
Then we read the book, “I Can Talk with God,” by Debbie Anderson. CrossWay Books. The book explained that prayer is talking with God and that we can talk to God anytime, anywhere and everywhere.  We should also remember to pray for others in the world.
Aunty also used the opportunity to sensitize the children to the colours and the design of the Jamaican Flag as well as 4 other flags in a book.
Flags that were shown were:
·         AMERICA
·         CANADA
·         JAMAICA
·         GERMANY
·         UNITED KINGDOM

Aunty Fiona hopes to get a chart with flags from around the world to sensitize the children to the different flags and the countries that they represent.

Activity 1
Handprint Fan
Children traced their handprint, coloured it and glued it to a craft stick to make a fan
Activity 2
An activity paper with the letter A and a was given for the children to colour.

After this the children played freely with each other

During break-time, Aunty Fiona read a story about Curious Katie from the book, My Favorite Stories by Arthur S. Maxwell.

The story is about a little girl named Katie who was very inquisitive or curious. One day she was told repeatedly by her mom not to open the cupboard. Her mom had made a lovely sponge cake for Katie to share with her friends when they visited her house. Katie’s mom had placed the cake in the cupboard because she knew how inquisitive her daughter was.
It so happened that the next door neighbor called Katie’s mom and with one last warning not to touch the cupboard Katie’s mom left for the neighbour’s house. While Katie was alone in the house the temptation to open the cupboard grew and she opened the cupboard, looked at, and even tasted the cake.
Unknown to Katie, the cat had crept into the cupboard when she had opened the door. Katie hurriedly closed the door when she heard her mommy come back and pretended nothing had happened.

When it was time for Katie’s mom to open the cupboard the disobedient act was revealed. The cat had made a big mess of the cake and so there was no cake for Katie and her friends. The cat received a spanking and Katie was punished. Katie and her friends had to eat bread, butter and jam.

After the story was read, Aunty Fiona asked questions and then we closed with each person praying. We dismissed at approximately 11:45AM
